He Put a Ring On It

Photobucket

I just love reminiscing! In honor of Valentine's Day this week I may pop up with a few lovey dovey stories about the hubs. So here is another! The question from My Little Life is...
How did your husband pop the question?

Well, I thought he was going to do it when I flew to Alabama for a few days. Sean is from Alabama and I am from Houston, Texas so the majority of our dating relationship was spent states apart. But that weekend was the first time I was coming to see him. All times before were him traveling to Texas. He had a romantic date all planned out. We drove to the Botanical Gardens in Birmingham and walked through all of the beautiful landscapes holding hands. It was GREAT!

I should preface that one of our "dating rules" was to NOT say "I love you" until he was ready to put a ring on it.

So we get to a quiet spot and Sean gives me the really sweet speech about how much he cares for me. Then he says......... "I love you" and pulls out a little velvet box with a ring inside.

Which he informs me is a "promise" ring. Not an engagement ring.

I was excited to hear him say he loved me but also a little disappointed that I had to fly back home with the ring on my right hand.

He knew he had made a mistake. So three weeks later he surprised me by flying to Texas, taking me to the pond behind my church, getting on his knee and finally asking me to marry him! He took the ring off of my right hand and placed it on my left. Where it belonged. My answer was never in doubt. The question wasn't "would she say yes" it was always when and how to ask.

But you know what? I liked the way it turned out even better! I wouldn't change one thing about our engagement story!

I'd do it all over again in a heartbeat!! :)

My Heart Was Broken...

My heart has been broken. My sweet baby girl got hurt for the first time in her entire 14 months of life. I mean hurt with blood coming out.

Ok, I should probably state that I am being way over dramatic. In fact if my husband reads this he will probably laugh. Nothing really bad happened to her but she DID fall and she DID bleed. And I DID cry. Maddy has slipped, bonged herself in the head, fell on her back, fell on her head and ran into doors, walls and chairs many times. To which, I tenderly pick her up and love on her until she is better. But never has she fell so hard that she actually bled.

We have a TV stand that opens up to shelves were you can store DVD's. Maddy loves to pull the DVD's out and try to put them back up. When she first started doing it I would get onto her but I have to be honest... I gave up. I know, I know... it's bad but there were other more dangerous battles I decided to fight like the fireplace and the router for our internet. After 2 or 3 months of constantly getting onto her about the DVD's I just quit and let her play with them.

My husband and I were in our newly renovated office (that was formerly the Breakfast Room) chatting when Maddy walked into the Living Room to watch her Baby Einstein that was on. Of course she had been playing with the DVD's only minutes before so I hadn't yet put them away.

My girl may only be 14 months but she can book it. She has been walking since Thanksgiving and is so close to running I just cringe. Well she was bookin' it into the Living Room, stepped on a DVD and fell face first onto our hard wood floors. I knew. I just knew immediately it was bad. I flew into the Living Room so fast I think I could've beat Super Man.

I have NEVER heard her cry like that and I could go the rest of my life without hearing it again. I scooped her up and tried to comfort her when I noticed her lip was bleeding and blood was starting to spill out of her mouth. I lost it. I mean I FREAKED! I carried her into the bathroom looking for a wash cloth but couldn't find one. I was frantic. I gave Maddy to Sean as I ran to her bedroom to get a wash cloth from her basket that I hadn't yet put up. I put it under the water and tried to place it in her mouth to stop the bleeding and she cried even harder, if that was even possible. Then I cried and told Sean I couldn't take it. I handed him the wash cloth and turned around so she couldn't see me cry. I didn't want to freak her out more.

My husband got the bleeding to stop after a few minutes and I pulled myself together enough to take her into her room. We grabbed her favorite toy from Build-A-Bear and sat in the glider. After a few more minutes both of us were better. Well, she was happy but I on the other hand was still a little freaked out. I have never seen my baby bleed.

I let her play while I quickly grabbed a basket and put all of the DVD's up out of her reach. And yes I know, next time it could be a toy that she slips on but at least it helped me feel better in the moment. Like I was really doing something.

Maddy has a swollen bottom lip but is doing fine. No loose, broken or missing teeth. No hospital or doctor's visit. However, I think a trip to the Mommy Therapist should be in my near future.

This was a parenting milestone I would rather not experience again.

I am also aware that she will probably get hurt even worse at some point during her lifetime however, I'd rather not think about that right now. This was bad enough for me.

What did you do the first time your child bled?

When I Met Mr. Right

Photobucket

I saw Courtney at Make Me a Blessing participating in this sweet Valentine's Theme and I liked it so much I thought I would join in the fun! The question is...
How did you meet your love?

It was really love at first sight although neither of us realized it for months! My husband is from Alabama and I am from Houston, Texas. We met in Missouri. Talk about God bringing two people together! In the Fall of 2006 I answered the call to missions and left my home for the midwest... 70 miles west of St. Louis to be exact. I was taking classes, training to become a missionary with Child Evangelism Fellowship. I was really clueless at to what God had in store for me but I dreamed of traveling to some far away dangerous country, risking my life to spread the Gospel. Maybe South America or the Middle East... But I came back in the Spring of 2007 to do an internship at their international headquarters.

Let me just say, Houston is warm. Missouri in January is NOT. I left 70 degree weather and landed an hour and a half later in the middle of an ice storm. Not cool. I was homesick before I even got off the plane! I was miserable and pretty much moped around for the first few days. That next week the new students were coming in to take training classes (the classes I had taken the semester before) and I was to show them around and help carry their stuff into their rooms. By dinner time I was exhausted but made my way to the cafeteria.

As I was chatting with a friend waiting for the doors to open I saw this guy wandering the halls looking very lost. My friend asked him if he needed help and of course he said, "just looking for the cafeteria". But it was the way he said it... with his DEEP Alabama accent. Up until then I was the ONLY southern person there... but not anymore! After noticing his wonderful southern accent I noticed his gorgeous baby blue eyes! We sat together for dinner and realized we had many things in common!

I wasn't so miserable anymore!

We became really good friends and a few weeks before the semester was over Sean starting hiding notes for me everywhere! It was so sweet! I wanted to let him know I was interested without being desperate (a very delicate balance) so I would leave him a note for each note he left me!

One day we were all heading out to someone's birthday party. Sean and I were riding in different cars. All of a sudden, I got a text from him... but... I had never given him my number! He had slyly taken my number from my friend's phone who happened to be riding in the car with him. (Thank you Sarah!) We talked all the time after that.

What ultimately got me was one day, a week before going back home, the cafeteria was serving Shepherd's Pie... I was NOT a fan but I was broke. I mean b-r-o-k-e. I planned to go hungry when Sean asked if I wanted to leave and "grab" something. I shamefully had to reveal my lack of money to even order from a dollar menu and he offered to pay. I was really embarrassed but I was also really hungry so I complied. When we met to go "grab" a bite he offered Chik-fil-A. I had not even seen one around and figured Sean knew were a close one was. Boy was I wrong!
It was at a Mall over an hour away in St. Louis!

He tricked me into going on a date! (Not that I would have said no.) We had a wonderful time and the rest is history! We "officially" began dating that May, were engaged in November and eloped (yes ELOPED) on New Year's Eve 2007!

Sean was, and will always be my best friend!

I love you so much honey! The last 3 years have been amazing! You are a better man than I could ever dream of!! I look forward to spending the rest of my life with you! I LOVE YOU!!

Fit Friday

My first Fit Friday post is coming a day late. What kind of loser does that?! Commits to start a new weekly theme and doesn't even do it the first time around?! Yeah... story of my life. But with Maddy being so sick yesterday and the doctor's trip it was just too hectic for me to actually sit down and write... well type actually. So anyway here is my confession about my new healthy lifestyle this week.

I started the Special K two week challenge this week in hopes it would give me a "boost" to really start my commitment. It went well for the most part but I found myself still hungry after lunch. A bowl of cereal wasn't cutting it. So I snacked on a few chips and homemade salsa. Only 1 serving size so I think it wasn't too bad. I mentioned my lunch situation at church Wednesday night and was told to drink a lot of water and I wouldn't be so hungry. I tried it and guess what? I was still hungry. Not as much but it was still there. We'll see how that one turns out. But I actually like eating the cereal for breakfast and lunch. It's yummy and I usually eat the same thing for breakfast and lunch anyway (as in no breakfast and a sandwich for lunch everyday) so getting bored with it isn't really an issue for me.

As far as workouts this week... I didn't do so good. My goal is to do a hard workout like the 30 Day Shred at least 4 times a week. I only worked out twice this week. I know that needs to improve if I hope to see any results. Next week I'll do better. Regardless, here are my results:

Starting Weight: 159
Current Weight: 158
Total Lost: 1 pound

Hey, at least it didn't go up! I am also claiming that my true weight is a few pounds less than that because the day after I weighed myself I got a visit from Aunt Flo. Which means 1.) I have water weight gain and 2.) I am not pregnant. Which is good in a way since I want to be at a better weight before I get pregnant again. I want to be healthy so that I can grow a healthy baby!

As far as the Super Bowl is concerned,
I'm not partial to either team. I will be watching for the commercials. They're always the best part! Hubby is going to a Super Bowl party without me since Maddy is sick and needs to be in bed at a decent time. Probably for the best anyway. You know how fattening the food is at Super Bowl parties. I know I couldn't wouldn't resist.

I just hope it is a good game.

Have a great weekend everyone!
